Dlúth-iomann

Intimate Hymn

le Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
(1907 - 1972)

Leagan Béarla: Rabbi Zalman M. Schachter-Shalomi

From word to word I roam, from dawn to dusk.
Dream in, dream out -- I pass myself and towns,
A human satellite.

I wait, am hopeful, as one who waits at the rock
For the spring to well forth and ever well on.
I feel as bright as if I tented somewhere in the Milky Way.
To urge the world to feel I walk through lonesome solitudes.

All around me lightning explodes sparks from my glance
To reveal all light, unveil faces everywhere.
Godward, onward to the final weighing
overcoming heavy weight with thirst.
Constantly, the longings of all born call out, "Is anyone around?"
I know each one is HE, but in my heart there writhes a tear;
When of men and rocks and trees I hear;
All plead "Feel us"
All beg "See us"
God! Lend me your eyes!

I came to be, to sow the seed of sight in the world,
To unmask the God who disguised Himself as world--
And yes, I wait to be the first to announce "The Dawn."

Dlúth-iomann

Ar fán atáim ó bhriathar go briathar, ó dhubh go dubh.
I dtaibhreamh isteach, as taibhreamh amach – gabhaim tharam féinig is thar bhailte,
I mo shatailít dhaonna.
Fanaim go dóchasach mar dhuine ag feitheamh ar an gcarraig
Go mbrúchtfaidh fuarán is go mborrfaidh go deo.
Braithim chomh geal sin amhail is go raibh mo phuball suite
Áit éigin i mBealach na Bó Finne.
Chun an domhan a ghríosú i dtreo is go mothóidh sé is ea a shiúlaim
Trí dhísirt uaigneacha.

Timpeall orm pléascann tintreach i splancacha  m’amhairc
Is léirítear an solas go léir, nochtar gach gnúis.
Ar aghaidh, i dtreo Dé, go dtí an meá deiridh
An meáchan trom á chloí le tart.
An uile neach a saolaíodh riamh ag glaoch gan stad: ‘Bhfuil éinne ann?’
Is eol dom gurb EISEAN iad go léir ach tá deoir pheannaideach im’ chroí
Ar chlos dom an duine, an charraig is an crann
Is iad go léir ag impí orainn, ‘Braith sinn!”
Ag tathant orainn, ‘Féach orainn”
A Dhé! Tabhair do shúile dom ar iasacht.

Tharla ann dom chun síol na físe a chur sa saol seo,
An masc a bhaint de Dhia is É i mbréagriocht an domhain –
Is sea, fanfad go mbead ar an gcéad duine a fhógróidh “Breacadh an Lae”
